Jennifer is dead. I can no longer work towards being a better mama to her. But what I can do is raise the money for the researchers that have her tumor cells .. so they can concentrate on finding a cure versus finding money.

My goal is one thousand dollars for every year I was lucky enough to be raising her.

You can choose which organization your donation goes to.

So here is the challenge for me.. the thing you are sponsoring me to do.. Help other mamas be better at their jobs. I have been helped and am being helped by so many people.. This is a time and a way for me to give back.  Random Starbucks drop off for a tired new mama... package of sidewalk chalk randomly given to another mama at the park..

Also by encouraging all of you to start your own page to challenge yourself... if your kids love playing in the sprinklers but you don't. That can be your challenge. It can be one big thing, like skipping school to go to a movie.... or lots of little things. ..ice cream for breakfast. The goal is challenging yourself to be better. You can choose which wonderful organization you want you money directed towards.

Jennifer was the kind of kid who did things for others.. who helped other people.. me included be better. She is continuing to do that from heaven and I want to honor that.

Did you know…
  • 7 Children die a day from Pediatric Cancer.
  • Less than 4% of the NIH cancer research budget goes towards pediatrics. This is 100% our tax dollars at work.
  • More American children die of cancer than of AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes and congenital abnormalities combined.
  • In the past 20 years, only 2 new cancer drugs have been specifically approved for pediatric use. Both for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukima. By contrast, in one year… 2012 a total of 23 drugs were approved for adults.
  • Average age for a child diagnosed with cancer is 6. For breast cancer, it’s 61 and prostate it’s 63. Average number of years lost for the adults that die is 15 years… for the children that die, it’s 69 years.
  • The American Cancer Society only gives one cent of every dollar raised for pediatrics. On their site, they have options for what kind of cancer (breast, prostate, etc.) you want your donation to go towards. Childhood Cancer is not even an option.
